Oh boy.

  1. Invest in those plastic underwear covers. They will save your carpet while still allowing Portia to wear underwear and feel wet. Get ready to do a lot of laundry. With our first two, I really pushed them with potty training and it was a long drawn out process. (Don't use pull-ups to potty train, it will just prolong everything). With #3, I didn't push too hard. We tried it a day here or there and finally one day she just caught on and decided that SHE wanted to do it. So, she did and she was pretty good at it. We also got her a fun little potty and offered treats (M&Ms) after every time she produced something in the potty. It helped, but only after she figured out how to do it. For weeks she would sit on the toilet and do nothing, then wet her pants 2 minutes later.
Every kid is different though, so ignore those moms who say that their kid potty trained before age 2 in less than a week and haven't hardly had an accident since. Good luck, potty training is one my least favorite aspects of parenting so far.
