Day 16

Top Knot

Stuck it in a bun on the top of my head. Can it get any simpler?

Day 15- halfway there!

Braided Fringe

I love easy hairdos.
I braided my bangs off to one side, and pinned it. The end.

Day 14

Big Hair

Volume! Who doesn't want more of it?

Today, put my hair up in a twisty bun while it was still a bit wet, and let it dry. When I pulled it out, there were some pretty waves. I backcombed all over to give it some oomf, and I went a little crazy with a spray wax. (Redken Wax Blast 10)

Day 13

Scarf

Today is a hard day for doing hair, since my wrist is in a brace and not very movable. (No worries, just a bit sore.)
I pulled my hair back into a pony, and made a sloppy bun. Then tied a scarf around  my head.

On another note, Brandon gets his MCAT score back tonight!! WOOHOO!!

Day 12

Today, we're goin vintage!

I curled the ends, and pinned one side back, and applied heavy eye makeup.
Va-va-voom!

Mugs

I told you I was feeling crafty lately.
Carrie and I made mugs!

These first ones were for Vanessa's bridal shower.
Get it? From Star Wars?

Then we made some for ourselves.
The front:

And the back:

Then Carrie made one for a friend.
The front:

And the back:

You best believe I will be drinkin some hot cocoa tonight!

Day 11

Half Up

I was in a major rush this morning, and this is quick. Here's the back:
(not a great picture, I know)

And the front:

I just part off the top section of my head, and pull it back. I like to twist it before I pin it, just to spice it up.

Day 10

Sorry I'm a bit late folks. I drove up to Tulsa for my Vanessa-friend's bridal shower this weekend, and didn't have time to post. But I did do my hair. So here you are:

Day 10: Curly

I did this with a curling iron, but there a million ways to curl your hair. You can use hot rollers, a flat iron, even roll it up in socks and sleep in it.

On another note, here's a picture of me and Vanessa:

Vanessa and I met in the first grade and have been best friends ever since! She is getting married, and I am so excited!!

Day 9

Beachy Waves

This is pretty easy stuff, folks. I washed my hair today, so it was a bit damp. I used some spray wax (Redken Wax Blast 10 is magic) and braided it while it dried. If you don't have time for that, you can always braid it, run a flat iron over the braid, and call it a day!

Day 8

Low Side Pony

This is another easy one, but it can be really versatile. You can curl it, wear a headband or flower, even wrap a strip of hair around the hair tie.

Day 7

Oh yeah. I broke out the crimper.
When I decided to do this challenge, this is one of the first styles that popped into my head. You know I love the 80s.

I reached into the deep dark recesses of my hair cabinet, and pulled out my crimper. If you don't know what a crimper is, google it. Sometimes they are called "mini wavers" these days. Apparently, the word "crimper" has bad connotations, bringing back bad memories of acid wash, gag me with a spoon, and this scene:

It took forever, because my crimper is ancient and took 30 minutes to heat up.
I can't wait for Brandon to come home, because nothing strums a man's heartstrings more than a fully crimped head.
Rad.

On another note, Margot is cute:

I'll slither up to you, you can be my lion cub

This is the best thing I've seen all day.

I'm not going to lie, I bought it on iTunes.

Day 6

I really have no idea what to call this one.

I used to do my hair like this all the time when it was shorter, it's a little more difficult when it's long.
I ran a flat iron through the ends to make them all go the same way. Then I pulled the top up and backcombed it till it stood up on it's own, and sprayed sprayed sprayed. Then I smoothed the top back a bit, fixed the weirdy hairs, and pinned the sides back. Then I sprayed some more.

Here's Portia, and you can't see her, but Margot is sitting on my feet in this picture. Silly little helpers.

Day 5

Headband:

Again, pretty easy.  I backcombed the crown and stuck a headband in it.

Portia's cute, huh?

Sunday, August 19, 2012

Day 4

Faux bob:

This is a bit more difficult. I curled my hair with an iron, and sprayed it like crazy. Then I pulled everything from the bottom and back up and pinned it, so that my hair looks 6 inches shorter. Then I sprayed it like crazy again. Crazy.

Day 3

We are going to Turner Falls today, so I'm keepin it simple!

Braids:

I parted it, braided it, tied it, and ran out the door!

jewelry making

I have feeling a bit crafty of late, so I made some jewelry!

I made myself a charm bracelet; I bought a few charms, I had a few from an old bracelet, and I made one.

This is the one I made. It's my favorite. It used to be a pair of earrings that my mom bought me while in New York City, but I lost one. So I turned the other into a charm!

I also made a charm bracelet for Portia. She picked out the charms. She has a giraffe, a hummingbird, a frog, a dolphin, an elephant, and a little box that actually opens.

I'm pretty excited!
Feel free to shower me with compliments about my skills.
Just kidding.

Or am I?

Day 2

Day 2: Wrapped Pony

Can you tell I'm doing the easy styles first?

This is the easiest way to dress up a pony. I back-combed the crown a bit, and pulled it into a ponytail. I took a little strip of hair out of the bottom of my pony, and wrapped it around the hair tie, and pinned it. Done.

30-Day Hair Challenge

I have decided to do a 30-day Hair Challenge. Intrigued? I knew you would be.

I am going to do a different hairstyle every day for 30 days. I can't repeat any styles, and washing it and letting it air-dry doesn't count as a style. I will take a photo every day and post it up, along with any how-to's. I have gotten into a bit of a hair rut the last few months, and I saw this idea in a magazine a long time ago, and thought it would be kinda fun. It's going to be pretty interesting to come up with something different every day, since I don't have a lot of extra time with 2 kiddos, but I'll do my best!

Day 1: Sleek and straight

This is probably the easiest style for me (aside from a ratty pony) because my hair is naturally straight. I washed my hair last night, and went to bed with it kinda wet, so I just hit the part with a blow-dryer this morning to get my cowlick to behave. Then I divided my hair up in sections and ran a flat iron from roots to tips. Pretty easy stuff.

On another note, This is what I'm listening to:
Remember that time the Spice Girls reunited for the closing ceremonies of the Olympics? That was awesome.

library adventures

Sometimes I wonder why I have so much gray hair.

I took the girls out in public today.
Its been so hot and we haven't ventured outdoors much in the last few days, I thought they needed to get out. We stopped by Sonic on the way and got drinks (juice for Portia, Dr. Pepper for Mommy), and headed to the library. As we got out of the car, I reminded Portia that there is a bathroom here, and if she needs to go, she should come tell me. We went in and started playing, and sure enough, after a few minutes, Portia came and told me she had to pee.
The Norman library has a bathroom just for kids that is great. Everything is smaller, so the kids can come in and go without help. Portia loves it. I scooped up Margot, and we headed in. Portia did her business and we went back out to play.
A few minutes later, I noticed Portia standing off by herself, very still (bad sign)! You guessed it folks. She had pooped.
So I grabbed my bags, picked up Margot again, and headed back to the bathroom. I put Margot down on the floor, silently praying no toddlers had missed the toilet lately and started cleaning Portia up.
She kicked the poop onto the floor.
So now, I had to clean up Portia and the floor. I think at this point, my eye started twitching. I got the floor clean, and Margot started trying to play with the poop in the toilet.
In case you've never tried it, cleaning up a 3 year old and simultaneously herding a 10 month old away from a toilet in a 3x3 foot room is really difficult.
I finally got Margot away from the toilet and Portia clean, and realized that I had forgotten a clean set of panties. Then Margot grabbed my half-full Sonic cup and dumped Dr. Pepper all over the floor.
Yeah. Really.
I started trying to mop that up with paper towels, but to no avail. The floor and the 3 of us were covered in sticky soda.
I got Portia to wash her hands, and ushered them out as quickly as I could, walking right past the line of other kids and mothers waiting to use the restroom. Not at all embarrassing.
Portia then realized that we weren't going to play anymore and threw a huge tantrum. How someone can both stomp and drag their feet at the same time is beyond me, but she did. I was just hoping that her skirt wouldn't flip up, because she was going commando.
We got home, I tossed the girls in the bathtub, and shreded my library card.
Not really.
But we won't be venturing out of our house again for a little while.

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

Man, I love being a mom.

Margot just pooped all over the floor.
I tossed her in the bath, and started cleaning up, when I heard Portia marching around and singing a song.
It went like this:

"Margot pooped on the carpet, and I didn't touch it todaaaaay!"

Oh yeah. We be jammin.
