A Conversation

We had breakfast for dinner tonight. I made pancakes, bacon, and omeletes. While eating, this is a conversation I had with Portia.

Portia: Mom, Margot is sick.
Me: No, She's ok.
Portia: Do you know what sick looks like? It looks like cheese. It looks like cheese.
Me: ....cheese?
Portia: It makes it really, really stinky in here.
Me: What?
Portia: Daddy is stinky. Margot is stinky. But I'm not stinky. Mom, you're not stinky.
Me: ...ok?
Portia: Mom, you and me are not stinky, but Daddy and Margot are stinky. (she paused for a moment) Mom, these pancakes are gross.

Happy Birthday Margot!

A year ago today, I was blessed with the sweetest, most beautiful baby girl!

Happy Birthday, Margot! You have gotten so big and Mommy is so proud of you! I love you, my baby girl!

Daddy's Girl

Margot didn't sleep well last night. She woke up crying several times, and I tried everything. I snugged her in bed, I gave her a bottle, I rocked her in the chair, I even danced around her room. She never would really settle down, just barely falling asleep. And every time I'd put her back in bed, within 15 minutes she was awake and screaming again.
I finally gave her to Brandon to try. He laid her in the crook of his arm, and she closed her eyes and passed out. 5 minutes and she was out for the count. I put her back in bed and she didn't move till 10 am this morning.
She loves him.

Fairy Ball

Portia and I went to the Paseo Fairy Ball on Saturday night! It's an annual festival held in the Paseo Arts District here in OKC, where everyone dresses up, and they have a dance and face painting and flowers, all fairy themed. Basically every little girl's dream.
Portia had been anticipating this for weeks. She would wake up every morning and ask "Sounds like we're going to the fairy ball today?"

Here are our costumes:

Portia the ladybug

Mommy
I made our tutus, and Portia thought she was the luckiest girl in the world.

This year, the Fairy Ball was a little different.  It's usually held in a large field, but because of the recent rain, it was moved into several small shops in Paseo. It was crowded and stuffy, but fun nonetheless.

Portia's fairy bouquet

Portia didn't like being shoved around in the buildings, so we spent most of our time running around outside, looking at all the other fairies.

Afterward, we went to Braum's for some bright blue ice cream. I think the people in the restaurant thought we were nuts. We didn't care.

It was a fun night.

Day 30- last day!!

I have to say, this was a lot of fun! I'm glad it's over, so that I can revert back to my laziness, but I had a lot of fun doing it!
I got used to posting on here every day, so I don't know what I'm going to do now haha!

Well, without further ado:

the Waterfall Braid

Here's the how-to:

What a hunk!

Every time Brandon brings me something to drink, he brings it in my Weasley mug.

I am so in love with this man.

Day 29

Knotted Pony

This is the how-to:

Now, my hair is quite a bit shorter than the model, so the ends of my pony were sticking straight out, so I tucked them up under the knot and pinned away.

Oh What a Beautiful Mornin!

Sitting on my couch here in Oklahoma, watching the musical Oklahoma, while eating Blue Bell ice cream, which is made in Oklahoma.
Cliche, much?
Guess what. I don't even care. I love this state.

Plus, Gordon MacRae was dreamy.

Day 28

Faux-hawk

This is probably my favorite style so far.

I love edgy looks, but I rarely get to do them to myself (mom of two on the way to the grocery store does'nt really warrant looking like a rockstar).

Here's my inspiration for today's look:
Cool huh?

Now, this took quite a chunk of time, and isn't easy to explain, so I took pics!
Ready? Here we go!

I started with dirty hair (Don't ask me when the last time I washed it was, I won't embarrass myself by answering) so that the curl would stay better.

1. I curled my hair with an inch wide iron and sprayed like crazy.

2. I then pulled the very front portion of my hair into two little pigtails on the very top of my head.
The piggies don't have to be perfect.

3. And I did more piggies all the way down my head, kinda like a horse's mane.
The very bottom, at the nape of my neck, I only did one little pony, There wasn't enough hair for two.

4. I grabbed each little piggy, and backcombed the crap out of it. Lots of spraying, lots of backcombing, lots of spraying again.

I look kinda like Bellatrix Lestrange, hence the crazy face.

5. Then, I pinned the now-fluffy piggies into a mohawk shape, making sure to hide the rubber bands.

6. I poked and pinched and prodded till it looked how I wanted, and sprayed. A lot.

The next step is really very important. Please pay attention.

7. I then applied 3 coats of black eyeliner and mascara.

See? Crucial.

Here you go:

I'm now trying to think of things to do today to show off my rad do. Housework just isn't cool enough.

funniest video ever

I first saw this clip in college, and I'm pretty sure I blacked out from laughing so hard. Every once in a while, I watch it again, and weep from laughing. Every time.

Day 27

Hippie braids

Once you get the hang of it, this one is pretty simple.
I did a braid on either side of my face, and pulled them back, and pinned them. Easy.
The braids are kinda tricky.

Here's a closeup of the braids:

I'll tell you how it's done.
Braid your hair like normal, kinda loosely, and don't tie it. Hold the middle strip of hair real tight in one hand, and grab the outer two strips in your other hand. Slide the two outer strips up while keeping the middle one tight. It should create this loopy braid, but it sometimes has to be tweaked and played with to get it perfect.

Day 26

Pink

I just sprayed some temporary pink color on a few strands in the front.

Funny kid

A few weeks ago, while reading the scriptures before bed, we came across the word "multitudes." Portia started laughing really hard, to the point where we had to stop for a good 5 minutes while she cracked up.
She thought it was "multi-toots."  Toots.
She still laughs about it to this day.
My kid is hilarious.

Day 25

The Chic Updo

Yay! Another tutorial video!

I have a lot more hair than her, so it took a few more bobby pins and a lot more convincing to get my hair to lay right. I also didn't curl it before hand, because I'm lazy.

Day 24

Bow Bun

I found this tutorial on Pinterest this morning, and thought I'd give it a shot!

My hair is quite a bit shorter than the model's, so I have a lot more fly-aways, but it was super easy, and pretty cute!

Portia says I look like Minnie Mouse.

thank you, frat boys!

Who has 2 thumbs and got wolf-whistled at when she walked into Walmart tonight?

THIS GIRL!!

Day 23

Side Bun

Pretty much the same as a side pony, but twisted into a bun.

Day 22

Peasant Updo

This one is kinda tricky. I backcombed the crown, and twisted the sides down and back. Then I pulled them into low pony. Then I made the pony into a bun and pinned.
The tricky part is getting the sides to twist evenly, and it always takes me several tries.

Day 21

Knotted Headband

I used to do this hairstyle at least once a week in middle school. I thought I was sooooo cool.

I didn't know how to explain this one to you, so I made a video!

Pocahontas was really excited about her new look.

Day 20

Braid Bun

This looks way fancier than it is.
I did a simple braid down the back, and tied it. Then I wrapped the braid up on itself and pinned away.
You can make it even fancier looking by doing a more complex braid, like a fishtail.

The back:

The front:

These pics were taken post-zoo, so excuse the fuzzy hairs.

the Zoo

Ready for a picture overload?

Today we went to the zoo!

The OKC Zoo had an awesome children's area, with a splash pad, and it's the highlight of our trip. The girls LOVE it!
Look at that cheeser grin.

Margot has started standing up by herself the last week or so. I predict walking to be next.

Playing house

Margot is not amused.

The sea lions were really fun today, they were swimming right up to the window and flipping around, it was awesome!
It was the first time Portia wasn't afraid of them.

Here's a couple of cheeser grins for ya. She's a pro.

Portia was really concerned about this picture of the tiger eating the deer.

Margot was more interested in the real cat.

 Poor guy was tuckered out.

Apparently, so was Margot. At this moment, I figured it was time to head out.

The girls were really lively on the drive home.

The zoo is fun.
