babies

It's moments like these that remind me why I love being a mom.
The other day, after her nap, Portia woke up and started drawling a picture and telling me a story about Ceena, the girl/mermaid who got chased by a bear, and how she escaped.
Margot woke up and came to climb in my lap. She pointed to the tv and grunted. I said "Oh, do you want to watch a show?" And she nodded her little head. When did she get so big?
These girls are so cute!

I be Pinnin'

I made a scarf that I found on Pinterest. I'm on there probably a million times a day, but I rarely make stuff that I find. Well, today I did!

Here's the original Pin; http://indulgy.com/post/DHfddH4aR1/fringe-scarf-to-make-for-a-rainy-day

I took a ratty old T-shirt that I used to wear all the time (hence the stains and stretched-out-edness),

and I cut it in half.

 Then I cut strips,

and then pulled each strip.

And that's it! Took me about 15 minutes, and it's super cute!

I even made a little one for Portia.

Happy Birthday Carrie!

Ok, ok, Carrie's birthday isn't for another month. BUT I made a really awesome present for her, and couldn't wait. Here's my inspiration: http://www.hellopapermoon.com/2012/08/spellbound-harry-potter-inspired-spell.html

I bought a leather-bound book,

And I printed out Harry Potter related awesomeness onto sticker paper,

and made a little Spell Journal!

It's pretty sweet, if I do say so myself.

FHE

Tonight was Family Home Evening night for us here in the Rawlinson house, and what a night it was!

If you don't know what Family Home Evening is, here's a link: http://www.lds.org/topics/family-home-evening?lang=eng

Since Halloween is fast approaching, we had a Jack-O-Lantern themed FHE! I got the idea from a blog I came across, and adapted it to fit our family. The idea was to use a jack-o-lantern as an object lesson to teach Matt 5:16 (let your light so shine).

I told Portia that we were going to learn about our spirits and letting our lights shine to others, and then we sang a song and said a prayer. I then asked Portia if she remembered what we were going to learn about. She thought for a moment and said "ummm, Harry Potter?" Yes, I probably could teach a lesson about Harry Potter. Heck, I could teach a whole college course about Harry, but that's not the point.

We got back on track, and I turned all the lights in the house off and pulled the curtains shut. It was pretty dark. I then lit a small candle.
We talked about how it's kinda scary when it's dark, but when we turn a light on, even a small one, it makes a big difference.
I started to tell Portia that we have a spirit inside of us. I said "Portia, you have a spirit inside of you." She looked at me kinda weirdly and pointed to her bum and said "In here?"

We got back on track again.

I told Portia that we all have a spirit inside of us that makes us love and learn, and that spirit can be a light to others, when we are good. We then talked about ways we can each be good. Portia decided she can be good by being reverent at church and by sharing her toys with Margot. Margot tried to grab the candle's flame and when I pulled it away, she yelled at me. She's working on it.

Then we moved our little party outside and carved a pumpkin!

He's pretty cute.

And we ate roasted pumpkin seeds.

Yum!

we love to read!

I took the girls to the Norman Library's book sale this afternoon! There were probably a million people there, it was nuts! I had to park way down the street because the library parking lot was full, along with the park accross the street.
The sale is a brown bag sale. Basically, you are given a brown paper bag, and everything that fits in it is $5.
We got about 30 books for $5. I got mostly children's books, but a few for me too. It was awesome!!

faces

Portia makes some pretty sweet faces.

Game Day

Today was the OU/Texas game!

Check out my game day babies:

Touchdown!

We were in a great mood, since OU totally smashed the Longhorns! Wooo!

BOOMER SOONER!

Buffy,

The Vampire Slayer.

Here's the deal. I grew up in the 90s, so I should have seen every episode of Buffy. But I didn't. I've seen bits and pieces of episodes here and there, but never the whole series, start to finish.

Well folks, I'm going to change that.

I watched a few episodes last night, and I'll probably watch some more tonight. It's so awesome.

things I'm lovin today

This has been a hard day. Margot has been sick and didn't sleep well last night, then I had issues with the receptionist at the doctor's office this morning. The girls are tired and cranky, and so am I.
Days like this only call for one thing: reminding myself how awesome my life is!

Things I'm lovin today:

1. Ruby Gloom- This cartoon is pretty awesome. Portia just discovered it today, and loves it.

2. General Conference is this weekend! My Carrie-sister and friend Simuka are coming to visit, and it's going to be amazing!

3. The fact that since the girls are so tired, naptime is going to be a breeze! You know I be snoozin later today.

4. Cherry Dr. Pepper. Enough said.

5. We are going to sign Portia up for ballet class. We tried one out yesterday, and she was in heaven! It's so cute! There's a recital in May, so get ready.

6. Today is National Walkie-Talkie day. Get it? 10-4? Ha!

Magnets

We made magnets today!
I use the term "made" very loosely; I bought little wooden animals and glued magnets to the back.

Portia is in love! She named each one, and has spent all morning in front of the fridge, creating a little world where Giraffe and Frog are lost and Butterfly has to fly to save her friends.

pierced ears

All growing up, there was a rule in my house that my sisters and I weren't allowed to get our ears pierced. My mom didn't have hers pierced, and she just didn't like the idea of holes being put in our bodies on purpose. Also, she thinks it messes with your ch'i.
I was in college by the time I rebelled and took a trip to Claire's. Within the year, my sisters all followed. But my mom would not by swayed.
Well folks, I have some news.
Last Saturday night, my sisters and I took my mom to the mall. She picked out a cute little pair of diamond studs, and they totally jacked up her ch'i. She has now joined the earrings club!!
It took 7 years, but I knew she'd cave eventually.

Ramona

This weekend, we had a little birthday party for Margot in Bartlesville. While driving, we passed though Ramona, the creepiest town in America.

Just check out main street:

Sufficiently creeped?
No?
Listen to this.

On time, we drove through Ramona, and saw a dude in overalls and no shoes standing in the middle of the road playing a guitar, and I'm pretty sure he only had one eye and human blood in his beard.

Eeesh.

princesses on ice

Last Thursday, we drove up to Tulsa to go to the fair to see Disney on Ice. Portia had been talking about it for weeks! We met up with cousins and dressed up and hyperventilated, and then headed to the fair.
We were there a few minutes early, s we walked around and looked at some of the crazies (at one point, I saw a woman breastfeeding a baby while she walked though the midway).
Finally, we sat down for the show. It was actually pretty awesome! They did the stories of Cinderella, Tangled, and Princess and the Frog. I thought Portia would pass out. She was so excited; every time a new character would come onto the ice, she gasped and clutched her heart. She was thrilled.

Margot enjoyed the show too, but it was a little harder for her to sit still.

Rapunzel's hair
They actually grabbed ahold of the hair, and flew around in the air. It was AWESOME.

The princess cousins
Nice, Carrie. Nice.

After the show ended, we went out for ice cream and then headed home. The girls fell asleep in the car, and as I put Portia in her bed, she mumbled "princesses on ice" in her sleep. I think she liked it.
