shower woes

Remember the shower incident? Pretty gross huh?
Well, here's an update. Shortly after I wrote that post, the maintenance guys from our apartment complex came and re-tiled that spot on the shower. Problem fixed, right?
Negative, ghost writer.
A few weeks later, I noticed that the spot that they had re-tiled was not doing so well. The new grout was literally peeling off the wall. Then I realized that it wasn't grout at all! It was caulking material (you know, the white stuff they use to seal off little cracks). It doesn't work very well as grout. Soon after I came to this realization, some more tile fell out of the shower.
So, they came and re-fixed it. The same way. And a few weeks later, guess what happened. Yeah. Tiles on floor.
This happened 6 times. SIX.
Finally, instead of calling the maintenance guys, I called the apartment manager, and this time, they are doing it right.
They had to tear all the tile in the shower out, and the dry wall and even the 2x4's behind it all, let that all dry out, then completely re-tile the whole shower. With REAL grout! Its almost finished!

heatwave, burnin in my heart

Yesterday was hot.
Norman topped out at 104.
Perfect day for our air conditioning to break down.

You see, we have 2 a/c units, one upstairs and one down. The one upstairs is a little glitchy. It has broken once before, and the maintenance guys just did something with the breaker and it was fixed. Well, yesterday it broke again. So Brandon went and did that same thing to the breaker.
It didn't work.
Remember how heat rises?

At midnight last night, our upstairs thermostat read 95.
We had had enough.
So we set up the pack-n-play and an air mattress, and we all slept downstairs. It wasn't near as comfortable as our king-size pillow-top, but at least it wasn't sweaty-land.

Talk about a heatwave!

FINALLY!

In a few weeks, we move out of our apartment to a townhome. Here is a list of a few reasons why I am excited:

1. no upstairs neighbors. at this moment, the girls upstairs are coming home from yet another drunken escapade, and they must feel that we want to know about it. we dont.

2. a bigger kitchen. i can finally use my closets for something other than storing my dishes in.

3. maintenance crews that come when something breaks. our dishwasher falls out of the wall sometimes and we told them about it 3 times. care to guess if they have come to fix it?

4. no dirt. the new apartment complex has grass outside the door, not just layers of dirt that blows into my house. imagine that!

5. more square footage. we are so tired of being crammed in here!

6. a pantry. self explanatory.

7. an actual laundry room. not just a space in the kitchen where a washer and dryer happen to fit.

8. a pool. this complex has 2, they just never opened them last summer.

9. no weird concrete box attached to the floor in the living room. whats that about?

10. last but not least, rent that wont go up $100 in a year! Jeez!

Cujo lives upstairs

Ah, the joys of apartment life. Our bedroom wall is adjacent with the staircase of the apartment directly above us. I think our upstairs neighbors are a couple of guys, I've never actually seen them. They are quiet enough, except for the occasional late-night run up and down the stairs, which we can hear quite well. But I do know that, whoever they are, they have dogs. Ugh, dogs.
Don't get me wrong, I actually love dogs. Someday, when we have a yard, we might have one. But I hate these dogs. It seems that every single time I get Portia to sleep and lay down for a nap myself, they start barking and whining. They too run up and down the stairs, and have woken me and Portia up several times. Today was especially bad. They would run form one end of the apartment to the other, down the stairs and back up again, over and over, all the while barking as much as possible. I could hear them through the walls and ceiling, and coming through the baby moniter from the other end of the house. And this is all while their owners are home (I heard them tromp up the stairs as well). I never could sleep, and I'm surprised my baby didn't wake up more than she did.
I want to knock on their door and be the annoying neighbor who tells them to keep it down. I mean, my newborn is quieter than their dogs! Of all the people in this apartment complex to have the noisy dog neighbors, it had to be the sleep-deprived brand new parents? Really?
