Spooky!

Happy Halloween (a few days ago)!!
I love Halloween. I like creepy, morbid decorations, I like dressing up, and guys, I really like candy.
This year was really fun. Brandon and I got invited to dj our church's youth Halloween dance. So of course, we pulled out some awesome costumes. Brandon was Seneca Crane, from Hunger Games. I drew the beard myself!

And I was electronic superstar, Skrillex.
The dance was  blast, and we had so much fun doing it!

A few days later was the annual trunk-or-treat/pig roast at church. Portia and Margot were so excited to dress up, as you can see.
Really excited.

And so was I!
I made my shirt using this tutorial.

There was a costume parade, lots of food, and plenty of candy.
 These two were in heaven.

The next night was Halloween! We trick-or-treated until the girls were too tired and too cold to handle it anymore, and have been enjoying the loot ever since!

Hope you had as much fun as we did!

Spooky!!

Happy Halloween!!

It's no secret that Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love candy, and am drawn to things that are slightly macabre, and dressing up is just fun!

This year, Portia went as Minnie Mouse. She picked out her costume herself, and has been looking forward to trick-or-treating for weeks!

Margot was a ladybug this year. I made her costume a while ago for the Fairy Ball. She didn't much care about trick-or-treating, until she realized that there was candy to be eaten; she was all for it after that!

Right after this picture was taken, we loaded that girls up and put Margot's wings on the top of the car, then drove off. Dangit.

Portia's loot.

Today, the girls are in a bit of a candy-induced madness, but I don't mind. It's pretty cute. Margot has taken to wearing the tutu on her head like a giant fluffy tiara.

Aaaand she just layed down on the floor and went to sleep .

And Potia has been in various stages of costume all day.

Cute babies.

Tootsie Roll Pops have a new flavor: pomegranate.
That's right, I'm getting my antioxidants from Portia's halloween candy.

Halloween times

Ok folks. I want you to take a moment to prepare yourself for a lot of cuteness.

Ready? Here we go.

I love Halloween!! I love costumes, trick-or-treating, eating candy, the whole shebang! And since I am a bit old for dressing up and going door to door, I get to live vicariously through my kids! Hooray!!
This year, we attended several Halloween parties! First, we went to a Halloween play group. It was so fun! Portia was a cowgirl, complete with boots and hat. Margot didn't dress up, she actually slept through the entire activity. The kids played games, listened to stories, ate treats (of course), and decorated pumpkins:

Portia is pretty creative. She did the whole thing by herself, I just helped with the glue.

Next, we visited the Tulsa area, and went to the Claremore ward's trunk-or-treat. This time Portia was a princess.

And Grammy was a spooky vampire:
Margot still didn't dress up, and still slept through a large chunk of the evening.
They had the trunk-or-treat inside the church, and decorated lots of different rooms to hand out candy from. There was a little room filled with lit-up pumpkins. It was Portia's favorite, mostly because there were purple ribbon streamers hanging from the door.

Tonight, we went to a trunk-or-treat in Norman. Portia was a cowgirl again, and Margot dressed up as well.

Cutest kitten ever:

This time, the trunk-or-treat was outdoors, and Daddy helped Portia go around to all the cars while Mommy and Margot handed out candy.

Checking out her loot.

beautiful girl

Margot slept through the whole thing. (I'm beginning to see a pattern here)
After the trunk-or-treat ended, we drove to a nearby neighborhood and went door to door for some more action.
Portia was a bit scared because it was so dark, but she said "trick-or-treat" and "thank you" at every door!
Now we are home. Portia is in bed dreaming of dum-dums and snickers and skittles, and Daddy and Margot are snoozing on the couch. And I am sitting here drinking some homeade warm apple cider. It was a great night.

Happy Halloween!

Why on earth are the smallest size of candy bars called "fun size"? When it comes to candy, isn't smaller always less fun?
It's probably to trick kids into not being mad at their parents for buying them the mini candy instead of the king size. Rude.

I've always had a sweet-tooth

Those who have known me for a long time know that I love candy. And cake. Also cookies, brownies, ice cream, etc. Basically, I love sugar.
When I was a kid, I ate any type of sugar I could get my hands on. And as much as possible. I would convince my friends at school to let me have an oreo from their lunch, I'd save my change and raid the vending machines, I'd even sneak my Halloween candy to bed with me and eat it at night (now you know why it was so hard to get Carrie and I to go to sleep, mom).
Now, I normally eat sugar like any normal human being: have a slice of pie for dessert, grab a candy bar from the checkout line every once in a while, make some choco-chip cookies when the missionaries come over for dinner.
But 6 months ago, I began growing a human, and all that changed. I have turned back into my 9-year old self.
I crave candy daily. And not just any candy. I want kid-candy. Sour Patch Kids and Swedish Fish and Orange Slices and Twizzlers used as a straw in pop. Just last night I almost bought an entire 1 lb. bag of Ring Pops. Who needs that many Ring Pops? Maybe if I were jamming to TLC at the 5th grade skating party!
As I'm typing this, I'm eating Jolly Ranchers and Root Beer. (Don'y worry, I ate some corn on the cob and a sandwich first, I'm not totally crazy.) And I'm about to go get one of the chocolate cupcakes I made last night.
Hopefully this ends before my teeth fall out of my head.
