A conversation

Portia: Mom, Spiderman really loves spiders. I think they're his favorite.
Me. Yeah, I think so.
Portia: I guess his family forgot to tell him that spiders are scary.

Spoken like the true daughter of a mother who suffers from Arachnophobia.

A conversation

We spent the afternoon at my sister's house yesterday. The girls had a blast with their cousins, and didn't want to leave. This is the conversation I had with Portia on the way home.

Portia: I wanted to sleep at Dahlia's house.
Me: I know, Sweety, maybe next time we can have a sleepover. But we gotta go home so Daddy can go to work tomorrow. He has to go home and get his work clothes.
Portia: But Dahlia's house has a pool.

Can't argue with that logic.

Two conversations

Me: Hey Portia.
Portia: What?
Me: I love you very much.
Portia: Uh, yeah. I knew that.
Me: Hey how did you know that I love you so much?
Portia: Seven!
Me: Seven?
Portia: Hahaha! I said "seven!"

Margot: *pointing to me* Mama Duck.
Me: I'm the mama duck?
Margot: Yeah. *pointing to herself* Daddy Duck.
Me: You're the daddy duck?
Margot: Yeah.

A conversation

Portia: (telling me about a show or something) ...but he doesn't have a brother or a sister. They both died.
Me: Oh, that's very sad.
Portia: It's ok, they can die whenever they want.

I had nothing to say to that.

A Conversation

Portia, running up, with a laundry basket on her head: Mom! I'm a mokey-coke!
Me: A mokey-coke?
Portia: Yeah. Do you know what's a mokey-coke? It means you be silly with a basket.

A conversation

Portia: Do Harry Potter haves a baby sister?
Me: No, he doesn't.
Portia: Did he lost her?
Me: No, he never had one.
Portia: Oh. *pauses* His mom and dad need to get one for him.

Either she really empathizes with Harry's loneliness, or she thinks baby sisters are the best.
Either way, she's right.

A conversation

Portia: I love kittens.
Me: Do you like puppies?
Portia: No, they will scare me. But Margot knows how to eat them.

What?

A Conversation

We had breakfast for dinner tonight. I made pancakes, bacon, and omeletes. While eating, this is a conversation I had with Portia.

Portia: Mom, Margot is sick.
Me: No, She's ok.
Portia: Do you know what sick looks like? It looks like cheese. It looks like cheese.
Me: ....cheese?
Portia: It makes it really, really stinky in here.
Me: What?
Portia: Daddy is stinky. Margot is stinky. But I'm not stinky. Mom, you're not stinky.
Me: ...ok?
Portia: Mom, you and me are not stinky, but Daddy and Margot are stinky. (she paused for a moment) Mom, these pancakes are gross.

Portia to me:

"I'm Dora.
You're Boots."
